My little fortune cookie!

During our visits, one of my aunts opened a fortune cookie boxset to pass us a packet for each of us. Quite cool coz I've never really received one of the cookies.

The cookie itself tastes alright, but I guess no one really bothers about the taste but more on the fortune inside. I heard different fortunes and most were centred around good health, wealth and so on. But there was one that read 'You will have control over the wisdom of the ages'. Very cool.

Mine read 'Suppose you could wish for anything you wanted....'. What the heck does that mean?? Mmmmm....

Pre-CNY celebration dinner

Had makan with some department people just after work to celebrate our pre-CNY holidays. The name of the restaurant we went was New Ocean located in the Imbi area. We had 2 types of crab (sour egg and sweet & sour), fried prawns, 4 seasons, chicken & duck talk and a vege. The total bill ended up being RM319. Not too bad, just that I was rather annoyed about the 4 seasons and chicken & duck dish. Why?

The 4 seasons had little pigeon wings which looks as akward as it tastes. The chicken & duck was utter crap really. The chicken didn't taste like chicken at all, and was apparently made from chicken and fish paste. The duck likewise but was purely made of duck paste (aritifical probably) and this silly dish costs us Rm46! The other girls agreed, but felt it was 'special'.

Felt lousy after the meal but I guess it was the fellowship which was more the purpose of the makan.

Shocking!

Got wave from my VP (old school title here), that our team has gotta work on FT Day (1/2/06)! What a bummer. This would count as my second time working over the public holidays. The other time was over Hari Raya Haji went I had to do an audit located in the middle of a palm oil estate over at Kemayan.

To re-affirm that statement, my senior VP also called for a brief meeting to echo the news and that there will be no exceptions. One of my collegeaus actually bought a return flight to Japan over CNY, costing over RM5k. Looks like its gonna have to be forfeited. Sad.

In other news, one of my assistants has been on AWOL due to his uncle who had an accident earlier and had just passed away. He was granted 2 days compassionate leave and took a few unpaid days. Supposed to come back today but he's not around! Didn't even call.

Knowing its peak period, we definitely need the support, but I guess he's too busy with excuses and used to working 9-5pm jobs. On one Saturday, he sms'd me saying that he had to stay home coz his air-cond needs servicing! alamak....

Going to start kickin' ass and taking names.... (or is that how it goes)

Contours, Food and Bad Hours...

I must say that working in commercial line does have its perks. Was little disappointed with the lack of contour of my office environment. What do I mean? Well, back in the old days, there were only 10 something floors at Wisma Genting.

So when the Group expanded, they had to build another section adjacent to the existing one, adding floors up till the 25th, thus creating two separate hallways to take lifts depending on where you wanna go. This design is actuall quite common, but the fact is... certain levels had an uneven flooring, particularly the middle section which joins the two abovementioned sections. Like the old Wisma Sime Darby... the view ain't that fantastic. HOWEVER, if you go to the penthouse on 25th, where all the senior directors work... its truly a sight to behold. There is big hotel-like reception desk, the directors' secretaries have their own mini office built outside the rooms, and the whole floor is furnished with glossy paintings and sculptures, hard wooden flooring and walls. Pretty classy.

Lunch options are quite good I suppose compared to the other workplaces I've been. There is canteen in the basement area and another one outside but still within the building premise. I was here some 2 years ago when I attended a 9 day E&Y training seminar held at KA building. At that time I didn't know the place belonged to Genting. The chicken rice was one of the best I've tried and still is. Other lunch options include the Tai Chow in Wisma Cosway just opposite, which is quite expensive, packed but very tasty. Of course one can always walk along Jln Sultain Ismail to savour food at The Ship, Irish Sandwich Pub, Nandos, Pizza Hut or even at Sungai Wang, which is about a 8 min walk. During those busy days, we actually ordered delivery from the Irish Pub and must say it was quite nice (knowing that the Coy took the expensive tab too), even though I had given up my sandwich-for-lunch eating days since I left Australia. Lately, we have been staying up quite late, up till 10pm, where we sometimes opted to order delivery from McD, Pizza, Domino or Nandos only.

Quite tired of it really, so now I would just go back home to eat. Last 2 days had been stopping by OUG to eat where some of them were still open at 10-ish. Had pak kut teh and it was quite similar to the one in Ipoh.

Ah..... the working life in KL....
